The Pit

The Pit is Northern Arizona’s premier limestone sport climbing area located only 10 minutes from downtown Flagstaff. The cliff is mostly south facing allowing for plenty of climbing all year. The nature of the rock is generally steep and riddled with pockets with routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.13. Beautiful scenery and great climbing make this an excellent destination no matter what ability level you are. Camping is available at the trailhead in the Canyon Vista Campground for a fee and is on a first come basis. Free camping is available in surrounding national forest. Due to The Pits’ close proximity to Flagstaff, we are able to offer half and full day trips.

Getting There:
The Pit is reached by driving south out of Flagstaff on Lake Mary Road. After about six miles, turn Left to the Canyon Vista Campground and park just before the entrance to the campground.  Walk through the campground and until the limestone cliffs of The Pit can be seen to the north. Follow the trail at the back end of the campground, breaking right to go down into the canyon and to the climbing area.
